Maharashtra Declares DPS Wetland as Flamingo Conservation Reserve
- The Maharashtra State Board of Wildlife (SBWL) declared the DPS wetland in Navi Mumbai as a Flamingo Conservation Reserve.
- DPS lake conservation reserve will help to avoid air accidents in future at Navi Mumbai International Airport.
- It also decided to protect the Devrais (groves considered sacred) in the Western Ghats.
Centre introduces new rules for radar speed measurement
- The Centre has notified new rules for radar equipment used to measure vehicle speed, under the Legal Metrology (General) Rules, 2011.
- The rules, aimed at boosting road safety and fairness in traffic enforcement, will take effect from July 1.
- Under the rules, all radar-based speed measurement devices must be verified and stamped by Legal Metrology authorities.
NEP 2020: Hindi made compulsory as 3rd language in Maharashtra Schools
- The Maharashtra government has announced that Hindi will be a compulsory third language from Classes I to V in Marathi and English medium schools, in line with the National Education Policy, NEP 2020.
- Currently, only Marathi and English are mandatory from Classes I to IV in these schools.
India showcases digital innovations at GITEX Africa 2025
- India participated in Africa’s largest tech and startup show, GITEX Africa 2025, held in Morocco’s capital, Marrakesh.
- The event provided a platform for policy leaders, changemakers, and visionaries to collectively discuss and deliberate on opportunities for collaboration and to advance the imperative of inclusive and equitable growth in the global economy.
Guru Tegh Bahadur: The Ninth Sikh Guru
- Born in 1621, at Guru Ke Mahal (now a Gurudwara) in Amritsar.
- Learned classical music and military skills such as horsemanship, swordsmanship, and archery.
- Witnessed and participated in battles like Amritsar and Kartarpur, earning the title “Teg Bahadur” for his valor.
- Fifth and youngest son of Guru Hargobind Sahib.
- Founded Chak-Nanki, later part of Anandpur Sahib, a key Sikh holy city.
India’s Shourya Ambure wins bronze in U-18 100m Hurdles
- In Athletics, India’s Shourya Ambure clinched the bronze medal in the Under-18 Women’s 100 metre Hurdles at the Asian Youth Championships in Dammam, Saudi Arabia.
- The 15-year-old clocked 13.80 seconds to secure a spot on the podium, marking her second consecutive personal best in as many days.
- Bao Yinyin of China won the gold, while fellow Chinese athlete He Yihui secured the silver.
Bhagavad Gita, Natyashastra get Unesco honour
- In a historic recognition of India’s cultural and philosophical legacy, the Bhagavad Gita and Bharat Muni’s Natyashastra have been inscribed in Unesco’s Memory of the World Register.
- India now has 14 entries in Unesco’s prestigious Memory of the World Register.
- The Bhagwad Gita and Natyashastra have nurtured civilisation and consciousness for centuries.
Particulate Matter Trading Scheme in Gujarat
- A study found that the Surat Emission Trading Scheme (ETS) in Gujarat, delivered both environmental and economic benefits.
- The Emission Trading Scheme (ETS) in Surat, launched in 2019, is the world’s first market-based trading system for particulate matter (PM) emissions and India’s first pollution trading scheme of any kind.
- It was developed by the Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB).
AIIMS Delhi Ranks 97th Among World’s Best Hospitals in 2024
- All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, has been named the 97th best hospital globally in the World’s Best Hospitals 2024 ranking by Newsweek and Statista.
- Besides, AIIMS, New Delhi, the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh ranked 228th in the list.
- One private hospital in Gurgaon has secured 146th rank.
PM Modi’s book on Indian culture Sanskriti Ka Paanchva Adhyay
- A compiled book on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s thoughts and speeches on culture titled Sanskriti Ka Paanchva Adhyay will be released in New Delhi.
- The book is a curated collection of speeches by Prime Minister Modi delivered on various occasions, highlighting Indian culture, traditions, spiritual values, and cultural heritage.
- The book has been published by Prabhat Prakashan.
Devotees celebrate Parkash Purb of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji
- 18th April is the Parkash Purb of the ninth Guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib ji.
- Born in Amritsar in 1621, he was the youngest son of the sixth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji.
- Known as a principled and fearless warrior, he was a learned spiritual scholar and a poet.

- Preached Sikh teachings and set up community kitchens and wells for locals.
- Opposed forced religious conversions under Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb.

- Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib: Cremation site.
- The All India Guru Tegh Bahadur Gold Cup hockey tournament is named in his honor.
Commissioners of Income Tax
- The Supreme Court recently advised that the Commissioners of Income Tax should not randomly remand matters in exercise of their revisional powers under Section 263 of the Income Tax Act, 1961, merely by saying that the Assessing Officer was required to do more inquiries.
- If the Assessing Officer could not find additions to income, then it can be taken that the assessee’s stand was correct.
World Heritage Day : 18 April
- World Heritage Day, also known as the International Day for Monuments and Sites (IDMS), is celebrated on April 18 every year.
- The theme for World Heritage Day 2025 is “Heritage under Threat from Disasters and Conflicts: Preparedness and Learning from 60 Years of ICOMOS Actions”.
- The 3rd edition of the Indian Navy’s Meteorological and Oceanological Symposium – Meghayan 25 – was held on 14 Apr 25, to commemorate the formation of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) and celebrating WMO Day 2025.
