Defence Literature Festival ‘Kalam & Kavach 2.0’ in New Delhi

  • The Centre for Joint Warfare Studies (CENJOWS), under the aegis of Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS), Ministry of Defence, in collaboration with Pentagon Press, successfully hosted the second edition of the Defence Literature Festival ‘Kalam & Kavach 2.0’ at Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi.
  • This year’s theme was ‘Securing India’s Rise through Defence Reforms’.

Cargo traffic on India’s inland waterways surges to all-time high

  • Country’s National Waterways reached a record high of 145.5 million tonnes during the Financial Year 2024-25.
  • Cargo traffic on National Waterways has recorded a compound annual growth rate of 20.86 per cent in 2024-25.
  •  Five key commodities like coal, iron ore, iron ore fines, sand and fly ash constituted over 68 per cent of total cargo moved on National Waterways.

Baisakhi celebrated for 1st time at Washington State Capitol

  • In the United States, Baisakhi was celebrated for the first time at the State Capitol in Olympia, the capital city of Washington, with special proclamations being issued on the occasion to commemorate the Indian festival.
  • Baisakhi, also known as Vaisakhi, is a harvest festival primarily celebrated in Punjab, India, and holds deep religious and cultural significance for Sikhs.

India make strong start at ISSF World Cup at Lima

  • In Shooting, India made a strong start to their ISSF World Cup campaign in Lima, winning gold, silver, and bronze on the opening day.
  • In the Women’s 10m Air Pistol event, young sensation Suruchi Singh clinched gold, beating Olympic medallist compatriot Manu Bhaker, who settled with the silver. 
  • In Men’s 10 metre Air Pistol, Saurabh Chaudhary Claimed Bronze.

  • Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to attend 15th BRICS Agriculture Ministers Meeting at Brasilia, Brazil.
  • Theme of 15th BRICS Agricultural Ministerial Meeting is “Promoting Inclusive and Sustainable Agriculture through Cooperation, Innovation, and Equitable Trade among BRICS Countries”

Telangana declares heatwaves as ‘State-Specific Disasters’

  • Telangana state government has declared heat waves, sunstrokes, and sunburns as “State-Specific Disasters.”
  • This classification will allow victims’ families to receive an ex-gratia compensation of 4 lakh per rupees under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF). 
  • The government noted that heat waves are a ‘hidden hazard’ with a devastating yet under-recognised impact.

IIGC Releases Comprehensive Code for Influencer Content

  • Recently, the India Influencer Governance Council (IIGC) has released a Code of Standards for India’s growing influencer community.
  • This move follows recent controversies, including government action after remarks by YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia and concerns over influencers misleading investors.
  • The top categories driving this growth are fashion, gaming, and arts & entertainment.

India’s exports register growth of 5.5% in FY 2024-25

  • India’s total exports of goods and services registered a growth of 5.5 per cent, reaching a record 820.93 billion dollars during April- March 2024-25, compared to 778.13 billion dollars in the previous fiscal year, despite the uncertainties in the global market.
  • Total imports are estimated at 915.19 billion dollars. 

Venue announced for cricket’s Olympics return at LA28

  • At the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028, Cricket will be played in a temporary, purpose-built venue at the Fairgrounds in Pomona.
  • Pomona, located in Southern California, is approximately 50 kilometres from Los Angeles.
  • Making a return to the Olympics after more than a century, the sport last appeared at Paris 1900.

Labour Ministry signs MoU with Swiggy to boost employment

  • In a significant move to strengthen employment linkages in the gig and logistics sector, the Ministry of Labour & Employment signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Swiggy, one of India’s leading online food delivery platforms through the National Career Service (NCS) portal.

Supreme Court Rejects Challenge To Urdu Signboard In Maharashtra

  • In a significant judgment advocating respect for the linguistic diversity of the country, the Supreme Court rejected a challenge to the use of Urdu in the signboard of a Municipality in Maharashtra.
  • The Court held that the purpose of the use of Urdu is merely “effective communication” and diversity in language must be respected.

Archery World Cup 2025 Auburndale: India wins 4 medal

  • India wrapped up their campaign at the Archery World Cup 2025 Stage 1 in Auburndale, USA, with four medals.
  • With one gold, one silver and two bronze medals, India finished fourth on the Archery World Cup 2025 Auburndale medals table.
  • Mexico topped the standings with six (three gold, two silver and one bronze).
  • Rishabh Yadav, Jyothi Surekha Vennam – Gold medal in compound mixed team
