IIFT to establish off-campus centre at GIFT City
- The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), New Delhi, has received approval from the Ministry of Education to establish an off-campus centre at GIFT City, Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
- The new centre will operate in accordance with the UGC (Institutions Deemed to be Universities) Regulations, 2023, as announced by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry.
International No Diet Day : 6 May
- Observed every year on May 6, International No Diet Day is a global celebration that promotes body positivity, encourages self-acceptance, and challenges the societal obsession with thinness.
- International No Diet Day was launched in 1992 by British feminist Mary Evans Young, who founded the Diet Breakers organization after her personal struggle with anorexia.
Maldives to build $8.8 billion Financial Freezone in Malé
- The Maldives has announced plans to build an $8.8 billion Maldives International Financial Centre (MIFC) in Malé, in partnership with Qatari-owned MBS Global Investments.
- Slated for completion by 2030, the International Financial Centre is planned as a sustainable Financial Freezone aimed at attracting global financial institutions, fintech firms, and digital nomads.
Combat firing of indigenously developed Multi-Influence Ground Mine
- Indian Navy and Defence Research and Development Organisation have successfully undertaken combat firing of the indigenously designed and developed Multi-Influence Ground Mine (MIGM).
- MIGM system is an advanced underwater naval mine and it is designed to enhance the Indian Navy’s capabilities against modern stealth ships and submarines.
IMF: India set to overtake Japan as fourth-largest economy in 2025
- India is on track to become the world’s fourth-largest economy in 2025, overtaking Japan, according to the latest World Economic Outlook released by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
- The report estimates India’s nominal GDP will reach 4,187.02 billion dollars next year, marginally ahead of Japan’s 4,186.43 billion dollars.
World Asthma Day : 6 May
- World Asthma Day is held on the first Tuesday in May.
- The first World Asthma Day, in 1998, was celebrated in more than 35 countries in conjunction with the first World Asthma Meeting held in Barcelona, Spain.
- In celebration of World Asthma Day 2025, the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) has chosen the theme “Make Inhaled Treatments Accessible for ALL”.
Supreme Court Publishes Declaration Of Judges’ Assets On Website
- In a significant step towards transparency and boosting public confidence in the judiciary, the Supreme Court has uploaded the assets and liabilities of the Judges on its website.
- This is the first time in history that the assets’ declarations of the Supreme Court Judges have been made public.
Haryana Cabinet approves new Excise Policy
- Haryana Cabinet today approved the new Excise Policy in the cabinet meeting held in Chandigarh under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.
- It has been provided in this policy that no liquor shop or theka should be directly visible from the National Highway or State Highway.
- This policy also provides that no liquor shop will be opened in a village with a population <= 500.
Rangacherra becomes Tripura’s 1st green village
- The government in the northeastern state of Tripura has effectively installed a solar plant and solar-based water purifier systems in the Rangacherra village under Mohanpur subdivision, making it the first green village in the state.
- The Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA), the implementing authority of the green village, took up the pilot project.
