India’s inaugural Asian U-15 & U-17 Boxing Championships: 43 medals

  • India concluded its campaign with a strong performance at the inaugural Asian U-15 & U-17 Boxing Championships in Amman, Jordan, winning a total of 43 Medals, including 15 gold, 6 silver, and 22 bronze medals.
  • The country finished second overall, just behind Kazakhstan.

World Tuna Day : 2 May

  • World Tuna Day, marked every 2 May, shines a light on the importance of protecting tuna stocks through sustainable fishing.
  • Tuna is rich in Omega-3 and it also contains minerals, proteins, and vitamin B12, among other advantages.
  • UN General Assembly designated May 2 as World Tuna Day 9 years ago to highlight the importance of responsible tuna fishing. 

Lord Buddha’s Holy Relics Arrive in Vietnam for Vesak Celebrations

  • The Holy Relics of Lord Buddha, accompanied by Indian Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, Andhra Pradesh Minister Kandula Durgesh, monks, and officials, arrived in Ho Chi Minh City.
  • The visit marks the United Nations Day of Vesak celebrations in Vietnam from May 6-8. 
  • Sacred Bodhi tree sapling from India was planted at the Vietnam Buddhist University.

India’s manufacturing PMI hits 10-month high in April on robust output

  • India’s manufacturing sector saw its strongest performance in ten months in April, as output and international demand surged, according to the HSBC India Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI).
  • The seasonally adjusted PMI rose to 58.2 from 58.1 in March, indicating solid expansion in factory activity.
  • Manufacturing output expanded at its quickest pace since June 2024.

Yoga Mahotsav 2025 held in Nashik to mark 50-day countdown to IDY

  • The ‘Yoga Mahotsav 2025’ was held at Nashik in Maharashtra to mark 50 days countdown until the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY).
  • The event, organised by the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga under the Ministry of Ayush, featured a mass yoga demonstration of the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) at Gauri Maidan, Ramkund Parisar, Panchavati.
  • The United Nations declared June 21 as IDY.

WAVES Declaration Adopted at Global Media Dialogue in Mumbai

  • The WAVES Declaration was adopted during the Global Media Dialogue, and the member nations agreed to collaborate on giving voice to traditions and heritage.
  • The delegates from 77 countries participated in the Global Media Dialogue at Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai.
  • Countries agreed to prevent the spread of misinformation and disinformation and promote media integrity.

Ganga Expressway: Rafale, Jaguar, Mirage flypast and landing excercise

  • The Indian Air Force (IAF) showcased its operational readiness with an impressive flypast and landing exercise on the Ganga Expressway in Uttar Pradesh.
  • The exercise was conducted on a 3.5-kilometre-long airstrip at Shahjahanpur, part of the under-construction expressway.
  • The drill featured take-offs and landings by advanced fighter and transport aircraft.

GAME and NITI Aayog collaborate to foster local entrepreneurship

  • The Global Alliance for Mass Entrepreneurship (GAME) and NITI Aayog have announced a strategic partnership aimed at nurturing vibrant, place-based entrepreneurship ecosystems across India.
  • This collaboration will initially focus on pilot sites in Nagpur, Visakhapatnam, and Uttar Pradesh, with plans to expand to other regions.

Delhi CM flag off 400 DEVI e-buses to boost last-mile connectivity

  • Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta flagged off 400 new electric buses under the Delhi Electric Vehicle Interconnector Service (DEVI) service in New Delhi.
  • The DEVI bus service aims to boost last-mile connectivity between bus terminals and metro stations and aid in reducing pollution across the National Capital. 

CM Chandrababu Naidu Inaugurates 10 MSME Parks

  • Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh N. Chandrababu Naidu virtually inaugurated 10 new MSME parks in various districts of Andhra Pradesh from Nellurupalem in Nellore district.
  • In the first phase, MSME parks will be developed in 40 constituencies, with an investment of 2,000 crore rupees, and by FY 2027-28, 15,000 MSME units will be established, creating 2 lakh jobs in Andhra Pradesh. 

ECI Launches New Steps to Clean Voter Rolls

  • The Election Commission has introduced new initiatives aimed at improving the accuracy of electoral rolls and making the voting process more convenient for citizens.
  • The Commission will now obtain death registration data electronically from the Registrar General of India.
  • This will ensure that Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) receive timely information about registered deaths.

GST Collections Hit Record ₹2.37 Lakh Crore in April, Up 12.6% YoY

  • India’s goods and services tax (GST) collections surged by 12.6 percent to an all-time high of 2.37 lakh crore rupees in April in comparison to the same month last year.
  • The GST mop-up was 2.10 lakh crore rupees in April 2024, the second highest collection ever since the roll-out of the indirect tax regime on July 1, 2017. 
  • In March 2025, the collection was 1.96 lakh crore rupees.

Ramkrishna Mission Foundation Day : 1 May, 1897

  • On May 1, 1897, Swami Vivekananda founded the Ramakrishna Mission at the house of Balaram Basu in North Kolkata.
  • Balaram Basu was a follower of Thakur Ramakrishna, a prominent figure in the Ramakrishna movement.
  • The motto was to spread the ideals of Thakur Ramakrishna.
  • The day is being observed at the Belur Math and Balaram Mandir.

Dhankhar releases book on UP Governor

  • At the launch of Chunautiyan Mujhe Pasand Hain in Lucknow, Vice President Dhankhar hailed India’s global rise.
  • The book chronicles Governor Anandiben Patel’s inspiring journey.
  • CM Yogi Adityanath called it motivational for youth, while Patel reflected on her roles as teacher, minister, and CM, calling the moment unforgettable.

US, Ukraine Sign deal granting Washington access to minerals

  • The United States has announced that it has signed an economic partnership agreement with Ukraine that will allow Washington access to Kyiv’s rare earth minerals in exchange for a joint fund to invest in Ukraine’s reconstruction.
  • The two countries have mutually agreed to form a Reconstruction Investment Fund.

National Open Relays: men’s 4x100m national record broken

  • A team comprising top sprinters Gurindervir Singh, Animesh Kujur, Manikanta Hoblidhar and Amlan Borgohain broke the national record in the men’s 4x100m relay at the 2nd Indian Open Relay Competition, held in Chandigarh.
  • The quartet clocked a timing of 38.69 seconds to set a new record in the discipline.
  • The previous record of 38.89 seconds was set at Delhi’s 2010 Commonwealth Games.

Gujarat Day: ₹649.77 cr development projects, Gujarat Garima Awards

On Gujarat Gaurav Divas, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of various development projects worth Rs. 649.77 crore in Panchmahal district.

  • The Governor and the Chief Minister will present the Gujarat Garima Award to six individuals for their notable contribution to the state’s development.
  • The state came into existence on 1st May 1960.

International Labour Day : 1st May

  • Also known as May Day, it is celebrated on May 1 every year, honouring workers’ contributions and advocating for their rights worldwide.
  • The first Labour Day parade was organised in New York City in 1882 by the Central Labour Union, paving the way for global recognition of workers’ rights.
  • In India, Labour Day, also known as Kamgar Divas, Kamgar Din, or Antrarashtriya Shramik Divas.
