Himanshu Jakhar wins country’s first-ever Gold in U-18 Asian Athletics

  • India’s Himanshu Jakhar made history by winning the country’s first-ever Asian U18 Athletics Championships gold in the men’s javelin throw in Dammam, Saudi Arabia.
  •  India concluded its campaign on a high note, finishing the championship with a total haul of 11 medals – comprising 1 Gold, 5 Silver, and 5 Bronze.

Indian telescope uncovers elusive intermediate-mass black hole

  • Indian astronomers have detected and measured the properties of an elusive intermediate-mass black hole (IMBH) located in a faint galaxy about 4.3 million light-years away, offering new insights into the mysterious “middleweight” class of black holes.
  • The discovery was made using India’s largest optical telescope, the 3.6-metre Devasthal Optical Telescope (DOT).

Telangana govt signs MoU with Japanese company Neysa

  • Japan based global digital transformation and IT services company, NTT DATA, cloud platform company Neysa Networks, and the Telangana government have signed an agreement to set up an Artificial Intelligence data centre cluster in Hyderabad with an investment of 10 thousand 500 crore rupees.
  • The project aligns with Telangana’s vision to be the AI capital of India.

2024-25: India’s pharmaceutical exports surge over 9 percent

  • India’s pharmaceutical exports surpassed 30 billion dollar in the year 2024-25, with the United States remaining a key market, accounting for more than one-third of the country’s total pharma exports.
  • Pharmaceutical exports reached over 30 billion dollar in Financial Year 2024-25, marking an increase of over 9 per cent compared to nearly 27.5 billion dollar in Financial Year 2023-24.

Dawoodi Bohra community

  • The Dawoodi Bohras are a Muslim community primarily from West India.
  • It traces its heritage to the Fatimid Imams, direct descendants of the Prophet Muhammad, in Egypt.
  • The Dawoodi Bohras throughout the world are guided by their leader known as the al-dai al-mutlaq (unrestricted missionary), who first operated from Yemen and then, for the last 450 years, from India.

Bihar Govt launches Mahila Samvad campaign to reach 2 crore women

  • In a move to reach out to women beneficiaries and other stakeholders, the Bihar government launched the Mahila Samvad campaign, which will continue till next two months.
  • Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated the campaign cum outreach programme from his residence at Patna.

Silkyara Tunnel in Uttarakhand will now be named after Baba Baukhnag

  • Uttarakhand’s Silkyara Tunnel will be named after local deity Baba Baukhnag, who is believed to have saved 41 lives.
  • Baba Baukhnag is a revered local deity worshipped by communities in and around the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand.
  • He is believed to be a guardian spirit of the mountains.
  • The 4.5 km double-lane tunnel will reduce the distance between Gangotri and Yamunotri by 31.5 km.

India’s Trade Deficit with China Widened

  • India’s trade deficit with China widened to a record $99.2 billion in the 2024-25 fiscal year.
  • The trade deficit is driven by a surge in imports of electronics, batteries and solar components, even as exports fell sharply.
  • China remained India’s second-largest trading partner in 2024-25, with total bilateral trade amounting to $127.7 billion, behind the United States.

India’s first satellite, Aryabhata, completes 50 years

  • India’s first satellite, Aryabhata, completed 50 years on 19th April.
  • Launched in 1975, the satellite was named after the ancient Indian mathematician and astronomer, Aryabhata.
  • The satellite, built by the Indian Space Research Organisation, was launched from Kapustin Yar with the assistance of the USSR.
  • India was recognized as the 11th country in the world to send a satellite into orbit. 

Rajnath Singh inaugurates Sansad Khel Mahakumbh in Lucknow

  • In the four-day sporting event, over 25 thousand participants are expected to take part in athletics, volleyball, kabaddi, basketball, football, hockey, boxing, and taekwondo contests in junior and senior categories.
  • Students from classes 9 to 12 are competing in the junior category, whereas those from degree colleges and universities are in the senior category.

Badesatti village of Sukma district becomes first Naxal-free

  • In Chhattisgarh, Badesatti village of Sukma district has become the first Naxal-free Gram Panchayat of Bastar division.
  • The Chhattisgarh government has recently launched the Ilvad Panchayat Yojana.
  • Under this scheme, such Gram Panchayats from where all active Naxalites leave the Maoist organisation and return to the mainstream of society will be declared Naxal-free Gram Panchayats.

Intermediate-Mass Black Holes (IMBHs)

  • They are missing links between stellar-mass and supermassive black holes.
  • They are believed to be seeds for the growth of supermassive black holes.
  • IMBHs are considered to be the “seeds” that can eventually grow into supermassive black holes, helping explain how such giants formed in the early universe.

Proposed Purchaser Under Agreement To Sell Can’t Sue Third Party

  • The Supreme Court recently held that a proposed purchaser under an agreement to sell cannot file a suit for a permanent injunction seeking the protection of the vendor’s interest in the property against a third party with whom there exists no privity of contract.

First Commercial Sea Shipment of Indian Pomegranates to USA

  • Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has facilitated the first commercial sea shipment of Indian pomegranates from Maharashtra to USA.
  • The inaugural sea shipment of 4,620 boxes of Indian Bhagwa variety of Pomegranates, weighing approximately 14 tons reached the U.S. East Coast in the second week of March,
