Celebrating the 135th Ambedkar’s Birth Anniversary on 14th April 2025:

  • Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar was a prominent economist, jurist, and social reformer, who chaired the committee that drafted India’s Constitution and served as India’s First Law and Justice Minister.
  • He founded the Mooknayak newspaper and the Bahishkrit Hitakarini Sabha for Dalit welfare.
  • Ambedkar converted to Buddhism in 1956, leading a mass conversion of Dalits.
  • Awarded Bharat Ratna in 1990.

PM Modi launches multiple projects in Haryana on Ambedkar Day

  • Prime Minister flagged off commercial flight from Hisar to Ayodhya and laid the foundation stone of the terminal-2 building at the Hisar airport.
  • He also inaugurated and laid the foundation stones of development projects including 800 MW power unit of Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram Thermal Power Plant, Compressed Biogas Plant in Mukarabpur and over 14 km Rewari Bypass project.

ICC Forms Task Force for Displaced Afghan Women Cricketers

  • The International Cricket Council, along with BCCI, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), and Cricket Australia (CA), launched a task force and support fund to aid displaced Afghan women cricketers through monetary aid and high-performance training.
  • The initiative provides access to coaching, facilities & mentorship, ensuring the continuation of their cricketing journey despite challenges.

Sourav Ganguly: Chairperson of ICC men’s cricket committee

  • Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has been re-appointed as the chairperson of the ICC men’s cricket committee and his longtime national teammate VVS Laxman too has been picked again as one the panel members.
  • Ganguly, who led the Indian team with distinction for five years from 2000 to 2005, was first appointed as the committee’s chair in 2021.

Global Tariff and Trade Helpdesk Launched

  • GoI has launched a ‘Global Tariff and Trade Helpdesk’ to assist stakeholders with export-import, logistics, regulatory & financial trade challenges.
  • The helpdesk will coordinate with various ministries to resolve issues and streamline trade support across central and state bodies.
  • Exporters can raise concerns via the DGFT website, email (dgftedi@nic.in), or toll-free number (1800-111-550).

Bajaj Auto non-executive director Madhur Bajaj passes away

  • Former Vice Chairman of Bajaj Auto, Madhur Bajaj, passed away in Mumbai this morning at the age of 73.
  • Born on August 19, 1952, he also served as Chairman of Maharashtra Scooters and as a Director of Bajaj Electricals, Bajaj Finance, and other companies within the Bajaj Group.
  • Madhur Bajaj was the grandson of Jamnalal Bajaj, founder of the Bajaj Group, and cousin of the late Rahul Bajaj.

Dr. Ambrish Mithal Wins IOF CSA Medal of Achievement

  • Dr. Ambrish Mithal received the 2025 IOF CSA Medal of Achievement for pioneering contributions to osteoporosis research and endocrinology in India.
  • He was honored at the WCO-IOF-ESCEO 2025 Congress in Rome for his role in establishing India’s first osteoporosis service and bone density measurement.
  • Dr. Mithal’s work has advanced clinical, academic & social dimensions of endocrinology.

Mohun Bagan Super Giant clinches Indian Super League 2024-25 title

  • In Football, Mohun Bagan Super Giant clinched the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 title following a 2-1 victory over Bengaluru FC at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium in Kolkata.
  • This was Mohun Bagan’s second ISL title, following their maiden triumph in the 2022-23 season.

Mustard Production in Kashmir Sees 36,000 MT Surge, Reducing Imports

  • In Jammu & Kashmir, the mustard production is expected to record an estimated increase of 36000 metric tonnes in comparison to last year production in Kashmir region.
  • This significant rise in yield is helping reduce the region’s dependency on imported mustard oil.
  • South Kashmir’s Anantnag district leads with highest cultivation among 10 districts of Kashmir Valley.

Razorpay Launches Turbo UPI Plugin on BHIM Vega

  • Razorpay, in collaboration with NPCI BHIM Services Ltd and Axis Bank, launched the Turbo UPI plugin to simplify in-app payments on the BHIM Vega platform.
  • The plugin allows customers to complete UPI transactions within apps, eliminating the need to switch to external apps for payments.
  • It aims to enhance transaction success rates, reduce friction & improve onboarding for partner businesses.

DRDO tests futuristic ‘Star Wars’ laser weapon

  • For the first time, India has showcased its capability to shoot down fixed-wing aircraft, missiles and swarm drones using a 30-kilowatt laser-based weapon system.
  • India has joined the list of selected countries, including the US, China, and Russia, that have shown such a capability.
  • India becomes 4th nation having capabilities to shoot down fixed wing drone by laser beam 

FDI in pharma sector crosses 19 cr in 2024-25

  • India’s pharmaceuticals and medical devices sector has seen a FDI inflow to the tune of 11,888 crore rupees from April to December in the financial year ended on March 31, 2025.
  • 13 FDI proposals worth 7,246.40 crore rupees for brownfield projects during 2024-25 have been approved, taking the total FDI to 19,134.4 crore rupees, as per figures compiled by the Department of Pharmaceuticals.

Telangana Becomes First State to Implement SC Categorisation Act

  • The Telangana state government has officially implemented the Scheduled Caste (SC) Categorisation of Reservations Act 2025, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar.
  • As per the government order, the 56 Scheduled Caste communities in Telangana have now been divided into three groups to ensure equitable distribution of benefits among the SC sub-groups. 

Palm Sunday celebrated in Mizoram

  • In Mizoram, Palm Sunday, which is known as ‘Tumkau Ni’ in Mizo, was celebrated in all parts of the state with solemnity and religious fervour.
  • Believers of the Christian faith observed Palm Sunday, commemorating the triumphal entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem as King of Israel.
  • The Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday and ends with Easter Sunday.
