Cabinet approves two rail infra projects to improve connectivity
- The government has approved the doubling of Tirupati-Pakala-Katpadi single railway line section in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
- This project will enhance connectivity to the educational and medical hubs of Vellore and Tirupati.
- The estimated cost will be one thousand 332 crore rupees.
- The government also approved the construction of six lane Zirakpur bypass.
Japan built a 3D-printed train station in six hours
- The West Japan Railway Company — a major railway operator in Japan — late last month unveiled a 3D-printed train station, which it claimed was a world first.
- The new station, Hatsushima, replaced a weathered wooden complex which was completed in 1948.
India, Russia Approve Six Strategic Projects to Boost Investment Ties
- India and Russia have agreed on six new strategic projects to boost bilateral investment cooperation.
- The decision was taken during the eighth session of the India-Russia Working Group on Priority Investment Projects held in New Delhi.
- The session aimed at strengthening economic ties between India and Russia by identifying and advancing collaborative projects in sectors of mutual interest.
Global Technology Summit 2025 in New Delhi
- The 9th edition of the Global Technology Summit (GTS) 2025 will be held in New Delhi.
- The theme for this year’s Summit is Sambhavna – meaning possibilities- and will explore how emerging technologies can drive inclusive growth, strengthen digital governance, and deepen cross-border partnerships.
- This year, the summit will also amplify the voices of the next generation.

LA 2028: Cricket to feature six teams each in men’s & women’s events
- Cricket at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games will be played in the T20 format, with six teams each competing in the Men’s and Women’s tournaments.
- Cricket is one of the five new sports to feature at the upcoming Olympics.
- The IOC approved its inclusion two years ago, alongside baseball or softball, flag football, lacrosse (sixes), and squash.
Centre enhances material cost by 9.5% under PM POSHAN scheme
- Centre has enhanced the material cost by 9.50 percent under the Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman (PM POSHAN) Scheme.
- The scheme is a centrally sponsored scheme under which hot cooked meals are served to over eleven crore students studying in Balvatika and classes 1 to 8 in government and government-aided schools.
De-Extinction of Dire Wolf
- A U.S.-based biotech firm, Colossal Biosciences, claimed the birth of three genetically engineered wolf pups, marking the first-ever attempt at “de-extinction” of the extinct dire wolf species after 12,500 years.
- De-extinction refers to the process of reviving extinct species using advanced biotechnological methods.
- Scientific Name: Aenocyon dirus.
- Status: Extinct approx. 12,500 years ago.
India’s exports surge to record $820 billion in 2024-25
- India’s goods and services exports have crossed a record 820 billion US dollars in the financial year 2024-25, despite economic uncertainties in global markets.
- This represents a close to 6 percent increase over the corresponding figure of 778 billion dollars for the previous financial year.
India, UK reaffirm commitment to boost ties in financial services
- India and the UK have reaffirmed their commitment to continue collaboration in the financial services sector, FinTech and the digital economy.
- India and the UK held the 13th Economic and Financial Dialogue in London.
- Both sides also agreed that a strong and robust UK-India relationship enhances the resilience of both economies.

Rural Unemployment Dips, Urban Workforce Participation Rises: PLFS’24
- The unemployment rate in rural areas has marginally declined from 4.3 per cent to 4.2 per cent.
- The latest Annual Report of the Periodic Labour Force Survey, from January to December 2024, shows that the labour force participation rate in urban areas has increased from 50.3 per cent to over 51 per cent.
- The worker population ratio has slightly improved across all categories.
Supreme Court To Consider Plea To Review NAAC Gradings
- The Supreme Court issued notice in a PIL seeking measures to ensure fair and transparent grading by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (“NAAC”) of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).
- Concerns have been raised over the transparency of the grading process by NAAC.
- It stated that “an audit done by GAG in March 2023 revealed glaring discrepancies in NAAC’s assessment processes.”
Belarus State University Confers Professor Honoris Causa on President
- President Droupadi Murmu held a one-on-one meeting and delegation-level talks with her Slovakian counterpart, Peter Pellegrini, in Bratislava.
- President will also participate in the convocation ceremony of Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra.
- President will be conferred with ‘honouris causa’ by the University.
